Raytheon’s Standard Missile 6 was spotlighted in a special media briefing on the final day of the Pacific 2010 International Maritime Exposition.

Dan Lambert, Business Development Manager Standard Missile 6, addressed a prominent group of defence journalists representing Australian Defence Business Review, Australian Defence Magazine, Asia Pacific Defence Reporter, Defence Review Asia, Jane’s Defence Weekly and Asia Pacific Aerospace Report.

Dan addressed the importance of a layered defence, the heritage of the standard missile, capabilities of the SM-6 missile, its commonality with the SM-2 missile and the success of the current test program for the SM- 6 missile.

After four successful land based tests Dan explained the outlook for a series of further sea based tests scheduled for later this year. He also touched upon Raytheon’s first production contract for SM-6 achieved in 2009 and milestones that had already been achieved.

The Standard Missile 6 has attracted considerable interest after it was explicitly named in the Australian Government’s Defence White Paper that was announced by the Australian Prime Minister in 2009.

A full scale model of SM-6 has been a feature of the Raytheon stand at Pacific 2010.
