Raytheon has a proud history of philanthropy and is dedicated to supporting the communities in which it operates.

As a technology and engineering company Raytheon is intimately aware of the need to motivate young people to continue their studies in maths and science.

By inspiring the next generation of engineers in maths and science, Raytheon is supporting the skills of the future and developing leaders for tomorrow.

Raytheon’s Commitment to Maths and Science Education - Questacon

In August 2007, Raytheon cemented its commitment to maths and science education with a $1 million partnership with Questacon, Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre.

This partnership is the largest community initiative undertaken by Raytheon outside the United States. It seeks to inspire young Australians into the world of maths and science through ‘Imagination Factory’ – an exhibition which tells the systems integration story and shows how simple machines work together to do inventive things.

Raytheon’s involvement with Questacon is a significant step forward in encouraging children to understand science in everyday life so that they are inspired to continue in scientific careers. Currently Raytheon Australia employees are volunteering their time as exhibit guides to help teach students about the concepts that are illustrated throughout the Imagination Factory.

Since it was launched in 2007, The Imagination Factory has reached more than 450,000 people.

The Imagination Factory is currently at the Brisbane Museum, Brisbane until late 2010.

Aberfoyle Park

In November 2008, Raytheon Australia announced the launch of a partnership between the company and Aberfoyle Park High School in Adelaide. Aberfoyle Park has a long history as one of the significant science and mathematics schools in South Australia. It is the official South Australian Department of Education and Children Services school for gifted children in the southern metropolitan area of Adelaide.

The initiative helps provide the gifted students of the school’s ‘Ignite’ program with the access to the computers they need to ignite their passion for maths and science.

In addition to providing direct financial support, the partnership involves Raytheon Australia employees acting as mentors to encourage students to pursue technology rich careers. By showing students the possibilities that maths and science can present the company hopes to make a genuine contribution to their future.
